In my research trying to discover or document the history of Navassa and its founding, I found that Navassa was the result of about 10 rice plantations that were located on the northern end of Eagles Island.

Eagles Island is an island that's located in the Cape Fear River. The Cape Fear River actually runs about 90 miles inland from Southport, North Carolina.
