It's [Gullah/Geechee] an academic label, but it has been done by linguists and cultural studies.

The people themselves have never identified themselves, even though they may speak a Creole term language and Creole customs like Louisiana. Because even in Louisiana, part of that Creole is French. Who would think? And then you see how the heck French got in there. Believe it or not, I don't know about Louisiana, but one of the first settlers here in South Carolina, I only study here where I'm standing, was French.
